Houston-based contractor Halliburton is set to pay out millions of dollars to hundreds of employees in one of the largest settlements for unpaid overtime in the history of the Department of Labor. The government has given the contractor credit, however, for working in good faith to resolve the issue in a timely manner as soon as the problem was discovered during an internal audit. The House of Representatives Monday unanimously approved the Research Excellence and Advancements for Dyslexia Act (READ Act) (H.R. 3033), a bipartisan bill. The Caucus is comprised of over 100 Members of Congress and is dedicated to increasing public awareness about dyslexia and ensuring all students have equal educational opportunities. Last week I released the following statement on the passage of H.R. 692, The Default Prevention Act, by a vote of 235 to 194, which takes a potential default on U.S. debt off the table by requiring the Treasury Department to continue to pay U.S. debts fully and on time, including Social Security payments if the debt limit is reached.
