Pete Sessions Statement on the June Jobs Report
Throughout American history, our economy has come roaring back after economic decline. However, because of the Obama Administration’s onerous regulations and continued federal overreach the United States has seen its slowest economic recovery since the Great Depression. In fact, it is estimated that if the current recovery followed historical norms we would have had five million more jobs than we do now. Even worse, wages remain stagnant, and the number of Americans participating in our labor force has dropped to 62.6% - the lowest rate since 1977. While I am pleased that today’s jobs report brings some welcome news, I believe that we must continue to implement conservative solutions that will stimulate our economy and create robust job growth.
Just this week a bipartisan piece of legislation was signed into law that will help create thousands of good paying jobs and grow our economy through increased trade. I will continue to support common sense, conservative policies like TPA so that we can get our economy back on track and give the American people the opportunities that they need and deserve.
