‘The Majority Should Decide’ Iran Deal

Today, I delivered remarks on the House floor this week, calling for a change in Senate rules to dispense with the 60-vote threshold that has thus far prevented Senate disapproval of President Obama’s Iran Deal. I am gathering signatures for a letter he plans to send to Senate leadership later today.

The Real Threat to America Is Not Immigrants, but Ourselves

Issues:

America has managed to assimilate tens of millions of immigrants and their descendants in the past and will surely do so again. But reviving some of its core values will make that process smoother. Read more about The Real Threat to America Is Not Immigrants, but Ourselves

Dear GOP

As I see it, the Party has failed miserably at upholding the values that attracted me to it. From the precinct to the Senate, there is a vacuum of principled leadership. Those that are there now have been eager to negotiate our values away, with alliances with our enemies, in return for favors for them, but nothing for those of us who put them in office. Abusive Lawsuits Hurt Innocent Americans

Issues:

Frivolous lawsuits have become too common in the United States. In recent years, for example, meritless lawsuits have been filed against the Weather Channel for failing to accurately predict storms. But when it rains it pours for abusive litigation. Frivolous lawsuits also have been filed against television shows people claimed were too scary, and against fast-food companies because inactive children gained weight. China's Aggressive Soul

Issues:

There are five entities that have mischief and aggression on their minds--of course, ISIS, Iran, Russia, North Korea, and China.

Recently, while the President preached climate change in Alaska, three Chinese combat ships got closer to the Alaskan coast than ever before. Military experts say this was the first time Chinese ships were in that area, just the latest example of China expanding its military operation globally. Read more about China's Aggressive Soul

Volunteer of the Year Award for Texas Senate District 25

Issues:

This has probably been one of the most memorable experiences in my political activist journey, receiving the Volunteer of the Year Award for Senate District 25 which includes Comal, Kendall, Hays and parts of Bexar, Guadalupe and Travis Counties. I call it a journey because I sincerely doubt that my volunteer work ends after receiving this prestigious award. Read more about Volunteer of the Year Award for Texas Senate District 25

How will the November Election in Houston Affect You?

When it comes to taking time to stand in line and go vote, it is often difficult to quantify the results of the time invested in the voting process. Only a fraction of Houstonians take the time to exercise their right to vote, and to some it appears as though time spent voting is time wasted, with no tangible results. Defunding Planned Parenthood

Issues:

This week, the House is expected to vote on the Defund Planned Parenthood Act of 2015. I’m a proud cosponsor of this important pro-life legislation that stops the flow of taxpayer dollars to Planned Parenthood and instead reroutes this money to other public health providers that serve low-income women without performing abortions. The Planned Parenthood scandal is outrageous and highlights the importance of quickly defunding this organization. Read more about Defunding Planned Parenthood

Senator Cornyn Calls for Special Counsel to Oversee Clinton Email Investigation

Issues:

Today I sent a letter to Attorney General Loretta Lynch requesting that she appoint a special counsel to oversee the investigation into former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s use of a private email server for official business while in office. Under Department of Justice regulations, the Attorney General has broad discretion to appoint a special counsel where circumstances warrant the appointment.
