What A Victory!

The following is Republican Congressman Jeff Flake's (AZ-6) most recent newsletter:

Dear Norm,

Wow!!! What a victory in Massachusetts. I know that many of you made phone calls for Scott Brown. Thank you! If the election results late last year from New Jersey and Virginia didn't send a clear enough message to the White House and leaders in Congress that citizens are fed up, Scott Brown's victory certainly did.

I mentioned in a previous email that my first priority this year is to oppose the Democrats’ big government agenda and put forward conservative alternatives instead. Along those lines, Congressional Quarterly, a Washington, D.C. publication that covers Congress, released their ranking of members of Congress and their support for or opposition to President Obama's agenda. I'm happy to report that for the second time in a row, I’ve been rated #1 in all of Congress in opposing the President's agenda.

While it’s tempting just to sit back and vote “no,” I think it’s important to get in there and fight for better alternatives. That’s why I’m even more proud of the fact that during the first session of the 111th Congress, I offered more floor amendments, by a wide margin, than any other Republican or Democrat in the House of Representatives. I also passed more floor amendments than any other Republican and all but one Democrat. I’m going to be just as active this year.

Thanks to what happened in Massachusetts yesterday, a government takeover of healthcare is likely dead for the time being. But Republicans need to continue to promote reforms that will improve access to quality, affordable healthcare. We have good, market-based solutions. We need to promote them!

I appreciate all the support you continue to show me and my campaign. The campaign is having a petition drive on Saturday, January 30th to collect the necessary signatures to ensure my place on the ballot this year. If you'd like to volunteer for the event, you can click here and someone from my campaign will be in contact with you very soon.

Again, thank you for your support.

Jeff
