Neugebauer Data Security Act Sails Through Committee

Each day, the United States’ economy is the target of over 100,000 cyber incidents. The status quo is failing and leaving the American people vulnerable to further data breaches of their most sensitive consumer financial information. I believe we need to do more to protect our country from these threats.That is why I am working in Congress to better protect your financial data and identity from theft.

Last month—and by an overwhelming vote of 46-9—the Financial Services Committee passed my Data Security Act of 2015 to create a national data breach and notification standard. I am very pleased to receive such great support for my bill at the Committee, and I will continue to work with my colleagues in the House to improve this legislation as it moves through consideration and discussions.
