Neophyte Franken Denies Lieberman Extra Minute Because Senate is "Rushing"

Independent Senator Joe Lieberman is the current "target of liberal wrath" due to his opposition to the public option in the healthcare bill. Maybe that is why he was shot down by Democratic Senator Al Franken earlier today.

Franken was presiding over the Senate Thursday afternoon as Lieberman spoke about amendments he planned to offer to the bill. Lieberman asked for an additional moment to finish — a routine request — but Franken refused to grant the time.
"In my capacity as the senator from Minnesota, I object," Franken said.
"Really?" said Lieberman. "OK."

Republican Senator John McCain was taken aback by Franken's response, saying he'd never seen such a thing occur.

"I must say that I don't know what's happening here in this body but I think it's wrong," McCain said on the floor.

Franken's defense? Time limits were being enforced by rushing Senate leaders. Rushing? Shouldn't our Senate leaders be taking their time when constructing legislation that will significantly affect their constituents?
