Legislation to Strip Tax Dollars from China-backing U.N. Population Fund now has Over 50 Cosponsors
Introduced two weeks ago, I recently announced that more than 50 of my colleagues are now cosponsors of the No Taxpayer Funding for the United Nations Population Fund Act, H.R. 2488.
This legislation would prevent American tax dollars from propping up an international program that is openly complicit in China’s inhumane two-child policy and publicly praises China’s abusive population-control programs which include forced abortions and sterilizations.
American tax dollars should never directly or indirectly support taking of innocent human life through abortion or the dehumanizing act of involuntary sterilization, and they certainly shouldn’t be used to support the oppressive, America-hating Chinese Communist Party in any way whatsoever. Former President Trump was right to stop funding the UN Population Fund due to their open partnership with the oppressive Chinese regime and their support for China’s atrocious human rights violations. This legislation will continue that policy.
The Members of Congress are Representatives Ann Wagner (MO-2), Vicky Hartzler (MO-4), Mary Miller (IL-15), Alex Mooney (WV-2), Doug LaMalfa (CA-1), Trent Kelly (MS-1), Gus Bilirakis (FL-12), Jeff Duncan (SC-3), Andy Biggs (AZ-5), Marjorie Taylor Greene (GA-14), Brian Babin (TX-36), Ronny Jackson (TX-13), Yvette Herrell (NM-2), Bob Good (VA-5), Bill Posey (FL-8), Scott Perry (PA-10), Michael Waltz (FL-6), Matt Rosendale (MT-AL), Doug Lamborn (CO-5), Greg Steube (FL-17), Andrew Clyde (GA-9), Madison Cawthorn (NC-11), Roger Williams (TX-25), Bill Johnson (OH-6), Louie Gohmert (TX-1), Lauren Boebert (CO-3), Michael Cloud (TX-27), LaTurner (KS-2), Garret Graves (LA-6), John Rose (TN-6), Andy Harris (MD-1), Jeff Fortenberry (NE-1), Gary Palmer (AL-6), Robert Latta (OH-5), Brian Mast (FL-18), Robert Aderholt (AL-4), Russ Fulcher (ID-1), Glenn Grothman (WI-6), Jody Hice (GA-10), Ralph Norman (SC-5), Scott Fitzgerald (WI-5), David Schweikert (AZ-6), Mike Bost (IL-12), Kevin Brady (TX-8), Adrian Smith (NE-3), Mike Johnson (LA-4), Kat Cammack (FL-3), Warren Davidson (OH-8), Bruce Westerman (AR-4), and John Moolenar (MI-4).
Supporting organizations include: Heritage Action, Family Research Council Action, Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee, Students for Life Action, Texas Values, Texas Right to Life, and the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops.
Susan B. Anthony List: “We strongly support the No Taxpayer Funding for the U.N. Population Fund (UNFPA) Act and thank Congressman Chip Roy for his leadership. The UNFPA has long been complicit in the Chinese government’s coercive birth limitation policies, including forced abortions. Polling from this year shows that a strong majority of Americans don’t want their taxpayer dollars funding abortion overseas. This legislation is urgently needed to disentangle American taxpayers from such egregious violations of human rights.”
Thomas McClusky, President of March for Life Action: “The current Administration plans to restart funding UNFPA despite the organization’s consistent support for China’s brutal child policy and the lack of evidence that UNFPA has changed course. We, therefore, urge you to support the legislation sponsored by Representative Chip Roy to remove taxpayer funding of UNFPA. The United States should support human rights, not fund international groups complicit in their violation.”
Connor Semelsberger & Arielle Del Turco of Family Research Council wrote in the Federalist “To protect American taxpayers from being complicit in human rights abuses, the Biden administration should pause before reinstating funding to the UNFPA and consider support for Roy’s bill to defund the organization. At the very least, the U.S. government must conduct a thorough review of the UNFPA’s connection to China’s National Health Commission and the Xinjiang Health Commission.”
Peter Pinedo of Texas Right to Life wrote, “Apparently, the Biden administration has no qualms with sending hard-earned American tax dollars to organizations that promote, perhaps even impose, coercive abortion and involuntary sterilization. Amidst a seemingly unending onslaught of executive action, Biden has quietly resumed funding to the disgraceful UNFPA. Congressman Roy and 40 House Republicans alongside him are brave enough to stand up to Biden’s appalling abortion agenda.”
Additionally, the legislation has been highly praised by articles in publications such as the National Review, Daily Wire, The Federalist, and LifeSiteNews.
National Review writer Alexandra DeSanctis wrote, “The ‘No Taxpayer Funding for the U.N. Population Fund’ Act takes aim at the UNFPA by forbidding federal entities from distributing U.S. funds to the group, which describes its mission as to “deliver a world where every pregnancy is wanted, every childbirth is safe and every young person’s potential is fulfilled.”
At Lifenews.com, Rebecca Downs wrote, “Now that President Joe Biden is in office, U.S. taxpayers are back to funding the United Nations Population Fund, the sexual and reproductive health agency of the UN. On Tuesday, though, Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) introduced the No Taxpayer Funding for the United Nations Population Fund Act to protect Americans from having to fund the pro-China agency.”
Background: I am a vocal advocate for a prudent common-sense foreign policy that stands up to China and keeps American tax dollars from supporting the CCP’s evil regime.
In addition to the No Taxpayer Funding for the United Nations Population Fund Act, I have also introduced H.R. 420, No Taxpayer Funding for Paris Climate Agreement Act, H.R. 419, No Taxpayer Funding for the World Health Organization Act, H.R. 896, the Dr. Li Wenliang Congressional Gold Medal Act, H.R. 1021, No taxpayer funding for United Nations Human Rights Council Act, and H.R. 2057, Transparency for Confucius Institutes.
