Congressman McCaul Votes to Support American Families and Workers Impacted by Coronavirus
I voted in favor of the Families First Coronavirus Response Act to provide immediate assistance in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, including free testing for all Americans.
Members in our community have felt ripple effects as the coronavirus continues to spread throughout the U.S. and across the state of Texas.
Thousands of Texans are feeling the financial burden of this public health emergency and their day to day lives have been impacted.
This virus does not discriminate based on your health insurance, your political party, or your age. That is why I voted in favor of the Families First Coronavirus Response Act.
Texans, whether they are uninsured or insured, should have access to free testing during this national health emergency. In addition, during this crisis, paid emergency and sick leave is a necessary step for all of those either sick of quarantined. By increasing our healthcare system’s capacity to care for those who are sick, we can ensure Americans are able to get the medical attention they need.
I will continue to work with my fellow Members of Congress, and federal, state and local health officials during this time.
Texans are no strangers to crisis. We should follow the guidelines of our public health officials and care for those who are most at risk. It is during time likes these we have and will band together knowing we will get through this united, as Texans and Americans.
The Families First Coronavirus Response Act will:
- Ensure that coronavirus tests are free for all Americans.
- Provide two weeks of paid sick leave and up to three months of paid family and medical leave for those affected by Coronavirus.
- Includes enhances Unemployment Insurance, a step that will extend protections to gig and hospitality workers who lose their capacity to work and earn wages.
- Increase federal matching to state and local health programs so that our frontline health systems can properly manage the expected influx of patients.
