Paris Climate Change Meeting

The first week of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in Paris, France can be summed up in one word: nonsense.

When President Barack Obama talked and talked and talked on the opening day for 14 minutes, more than three times his allotted time, he made big news. But the content of his speech was to apologize for America--again--then to pontificate about the unscientific nonsense of manmade climate change. He and his fellow climate change adherents, including Secretary of State John Kerry, simply ignore the fact that the globe hasn’t warmed according to satellite monitoring since 1998.

In 1997, when I attended my first “climate change/global warming” conference in Kyoto, Japan, most nations knew that there was no scientific evidence to prove that carbon dioxide emitted when fossil fuels are burned caused “climate change/global warming.” But when then U.S. Vice President Al Gore flew to Japan to direct the American delegation to be “flexible,” the scheme was ratcheted to a new level. A level based on politics, not science.

Gore’s dictum had fully taken hold by the time the UN met in 2002 in Johannesburg, South Africa where David Rockefeller hosted an event to define “sustainable development.” When he asked attendees to close their eyes and meditate on the definition, afterwards several persons went to microphones to espouse different meanings.

Today the UN has a clear definition of “sustainable development” that is to demand social, environmental and economic “equity” aka “justice.” It’s like a watermelon, green on the outside and Marxist red on the inside.

“Sustainable development” in practice is the redistribution of wealth around the globe by using this unscientific theory that carbon dioxide, CO2, emitted when fossil fuels are burned, causes climate change. Carbon dioxide is not a pollutant; it is the air humans breathe out. Photosynthesis is the process in which plants take in CO2 and emit oxygen. The more CO2, the more the plants grow and the more oxygen is produced.

The UN wants CO2 emissions measured so that they can be taxed. And the UN would like nothing more than to be given a mandate to tax “polluters,” the nations that produce bountiful energy produced by fossil fuels to heat and cool our homes and businesses.

There is also a big push in Paris to divest from fossil fuel. The Rockefeller Fund pledged to divest $50 billion of the total $3.4 trillion touted by the UN globally claiming that "if it's wrong to cause climate change, then it's wrong to profit from climate change." The President of the California Senate was on hand to tout his bill to divest one half trillion dollars in investments “in line with our values.”

The U.S. has come a long way since the 1992 Climate Change treaty was signed by President George H.W. Bush and ratified by the U.S. Senate in 1992. Using the UN’s Agenda 21 as a blueprint, President Bill Clinton’s 1993 Executive Order was used to embed this radical environmental agenda into every federal bureaucracy. The legally-binding 1997 Kyoto Protocol, that expired in 2012, was not ratified when President George W. Bush was in office.

President Barack Obama and Secretary Kerry are firmly entrenched in this radical UN agenda. But Obama doesn’t want a treaty because a treaty would require ratification by the U.S. Senate, preferring unilateral decision-making to fundamentally transform America.

Senator Mike Lee has spoken clearly in defense of America’s energy producers and our national sovereignty. And against President Obama’s fundamental transformation of America to limit your energy usage and sharply curtail your freedom to travel by transforming our transportation system. Even worse, Senator Lee pointed out that what Obama really wants to do is to not only fundamentally transform America, but also the way that treaties are implemented.

Obama wants to earn UN approval for his radical Climate Action Plan since the U.S. Senate is highly unlikely to ratify any treaty produced this week in Paris. You can listen to Senator Lee’s comments here:

Next week’s developments promise to be entertaining considering the President’s position that any Congressman who doubts manmade “climate change/global warming” is unqualified to represent the people. He’d much rather use compulsion to fundamentally transform America. I’ll keep you posted on any progress in Paris.
