On July 31st, 2010, Arizona State Senator Russell Pearce hosted the National Immigration Policy Summit and the Stand With Arizona rally at the Arizona capitol. This event was in three parts.
On the evening of July 30th, there was a candle-lit vigil held at the capitol in remembrance of all those who have lost their lives due to border violence, be they law enforcement or innocent citizens caught in the middle.
Beginning at 9 a.m. on the morning of July 31st, activists and legislators from across the country convened in the Arizona Senate Building. The day included presentations from Constitutional Scholar John Eastman, former INS Special Agent Michael Cutler, and many others. During lunch there was a Q&A session with special guest Michelle Malkin, followed by many more seminars throughout the Senate building. The day ended at 4 p.m. in the Arizona Senate Chambers with an address from Senator Russell Pearce.
Later on that evening was the Rally for SB1070 and Legal Immigration on the Senate lawn, beginning at 6 p.m. Most of the speakers from the Summit and Rally were the same with a few more added for the Rally.
The point of the weekend was not just to rally support for Arizona as federal court challenges are taken to the next level, but also to help activists and legislators from across the nation reach out to different communities and garner more support for legal immigration and sensible reforms.
