Texas Lawyer Building Class Action Lawsuit Against City for Possibly Illegal Houston Drainage Fee

Tags:

A Texas lawyer has filed a lawsuit, and is attempting to have it declared a class action against the City of Houston, for the possibly illegal collection of drainage fees. The fees are one of the results of the 2010 Prop 1 “Rain Tax” charter amendment election, which is in danger of being thrown out after a recent Texas Supreme Court ruling. Holy See What He Said Now!?

Issues:

I can recall a Pope changing history, in recent history, by making clear to the leaders of the former Soviet Union, that if they invaded his native land of Poland, (as they were clearly threatening to do) he would travel to the battle line and stand with the free Polish army and people against Soviet aggression. Repealing Obamacare’s Medical Device Tax

Last week—and with my support—the House passed the Protect Medical Innovation Act (H.R. 160) to repeal Obamacare’s medical device tax. Instead of focusing on policies that encourage medical innovation, the medical device tax raises the cost of health care products that millions of Americans rely on—including pacemakers, MRI machines, and insulin pumps. Only in Washington would this be considered a good idea. Read more about Repealing Obamacare’s Medical Device Tax

2016 NDAA Reaffirms Our Commitment to Our Men and Women in Uniform

The 2016 NDAA will increase the military readiness and capabilities of the United States without increasing spending on programs entirely unrelated to our national defense, and I am grateful for the support my amendments received, including measures that will ensure the readiness of our troops, support for our allies, and continued vigilance against our adversaries. How Clinton Plans to Win

Issues:

Part of political operative's job is to know the opponent's record and MO. In the case of the Clintons, they have a quarter of a century's history of operation and we also have the history of the Democratic left's strategy, so it is not hard to dissect what Clinton's strategy will be. Team Hillary's strategy is not to just win an election but to win a decisive victory and cement her mandate while cementing the left's hold on policy. Read more about How Clinton Plans to Win

Recent Flooding Damage

Issues:

On Friday, I was in Wharton and El Campo to see firsthand the damage caused by the latest flooding. We are in hurricane season and although we have weathered many storms in years past, I want to urge everyone to be cautious. Having just gone through the wettest month on record, our area is especially vulnerable right now. Read more about Recent Flooding Damage

State Department Must Release the Iran Human Rights Report Now

Anyone alarmed by Tehran’s brutal and aggressive conduct should take a keen interest in this report even if Secretary Kerry is unable to attend its release.

A little over a month ago, five Senate colleagues and I sent a letter to Secretary of State John Kerry requesting information about the ongoing delay of the annual Country Reports on Human Rights Practices. In recent days the State Department informed my office it has been unable to release the long-overdue annual report on Iran’s human rights abuses because of a scheduling conflict. Happy Juneteenth

Issues:

As many Texans know, Juneteenth is a historical day for our state.

150 years ago today, we celebrated the announcement of the abolition of slavery in Texas. Today we commemorate the announcement of the emancipation, not only in Texas, but throughout our nation. Celebrate Juneteenth Read more about Happy Juneteenth

Congressman Smith Honors Local Doolittle Tokyo Raider

Issues:

It is my privilege to honor the proud legacy of the Doolittle Tokyo Raiders and present Lt. Col. Cole with a flag flown over the Capitol in his honor and a bronze medal replica of the Congressional Gold medal. It is understandable that only a city park would be big enough to hold everyone who would want to come to a special occasion like this. Protecting the Second Amendment

It seems to me that some people in Washington will do whatever it takes to seize our guns and ammunition. They operate with no regard for the Constitution, the Courts, the Congress or the will of the people. Read more about Protecting the Second Amendment
