Luttrell Introduces Bill to Identify Syrian Terrorists Threats

Congressman Morgan Luttrell (R-TX) introduced the Syria Terrorism Threat Assessment Act, requiring the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to evaluate the threat posed to the United States by individuals in Syria with ties to Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTO) or a Specially Designated Global Terrorist Organization (STGT). This critical assessment will help strengthen national security by identifying potential risks and enhancing counterterrorism efforts.

Homegrown violent extremism and foreign jihadist networks remain a serious threat as extremist groups actively seek to infiltrate the United States. These groups exploit online platforms and other means to remotely recruit, radicalize, and mobilize both U.S. and non-U.S. individuals to plan, support, and carry out terrorist attacks on American soil and abroad.

“The threat of terrorism has not disappeared — it has evolved. Syria has become a hotspot for radical extremists who want to do us harm, and they’re using every tool at their disposal to recruit, radicalize, and send bad actors our way. We can’t sit back and wait for another attack,” said Congressman Luttrell. “The Syria Terrorism Threat Assessment Act ensures DHS does its job to identify threats, close vulnerabilities, and strengthen counterterrorism efforts. Protecting American lives and preventing future attacks must remain our top priority.”
