VIDEO: Cornyn Joins Fox News Sunday on the Presidential Election, Government Funding, Border Crisis

On Fox News Sunday, U.S. Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) joined Shannon Bream to discuss Tuesday’s presidential debate, Republicans’ policy priorities under a Trump-Vance administration, the outlook on government funding ahead of the September 30th deadline, and Vice President Harris’ bungling of the border crisis. Excerpts of Sen. Cornyn’s remarks are below, and video can be found here.

On the Upcoming Presidential Debate:

“We’ve seen the polls very close, but mainly she's coming off of this, as James Carville called it, ‘a sugar high’ after the coup d’état that was committed against Joe Biden and then, of course, the convention.”

“I’m looking forward to a repetition of the good debate performance that President Trump had with President Biden, and I think he is up to it.”

On Republicans’ Policy Priorities:

“When President Trump is reelected, along with my colleague JD Vance, I expect we will be helping the administration pass their agenda, and I don't see a lot of daylight between what Republicans in the Senate want to do or know we need to do, things like reauthorize the expiring provisions of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act.”

“We need to reestablish ourselves, our nation, as the preeminent leader in the world when it comes to national security matters… We’re going to have to also look at the debt. We’re now spending more money on interest on the national debt than we are on defense.”

On Government Funding & SAVE Act:

“I would think both parties—and everybody—would be interested in protecting the integrity of the ballot and making sure that people only legally qualified to vote do so. But it’s become a partisan issue, which is amazing to me, but I don't think there will be a shutdown.”

“I hope we’ll have a debate and an opportunity to vote on [the SAVE Act].”

On Vice President Harris & the Border Crisis:

“The truth is that the Biden-Harris administration spent three and a half years dismantling all of the Trump border security policies that produced a far better outcome at the border.”

“I was just down in the Rio Grande Valley a couple weeks ago with Senator John Boozman from Arkansas, and the way the Border Patrol explained it to me, they said, ‘This is a shell game.’”

“We need to return to the policies of the previous administration. Remain in Mexico is one of them, but this is all a shell game in my view.
