Hurd Receives White Coat Waste Warrior Award for Animal Advocacy Efforts
I was presented yesterday with the Waste Warrior Award by the White Coat Waste Project for my steadfast advocacy in Congress to end taxpayer-funded experiments and tests that harm animals.
This Congress, I was an original cosponsor and strong proponent of several initiatives to end animal testing, including:
- The KITTEN Act of 2019, which prompted the U.S. Department of Agriculture to end its wasteful, cruel kitten testing earlier this year that cost over $650,000 in taxpayer dollars and has caused the deaths of thousands of cats; and,
- The PUPPERS Act of 2019, which would end the painful dog testing at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs.
Animal cruelty in any form is heinous and unacceptable. Protecting animals is commonsense, which is why I’ve been proud to join in on several bipartisan efforts throughout my time in Congress to curb cruel, needless animal testing that wastes Americans’ hard-earned taxpayer dollars and puts innocent animals at risk. I’m honored to be recognized by the White Coat Waste Project today and I will continue to fight for the humane treatment of all of God’s creatures.
"In just the past year, Congressman Hurd was instrumental in stopping the USDA from needlessly abusing and killing kittens, and ending deadly experiments on puppies at the VA,” said Justin Goodman, Vice President of Advocacy and Public Policy with the White Coat Waste Project. “Rep. Hurd is a champion for taxpayers and animals and we’re proud to honor him for his exceptional leadership to stop federal agencies from wasting billions on unproductive and painful animal experiments opposed by most Amearicans.”
