Holding the State Department Responsible for Misuse of Americans' Tax Dollars
The U.S. State Department is tasked with advancing America’s interests abroad — a crucial responsibility. Yet the Biden administration’s State Department issued a $500,000 grant to Humanists International, a group working to promote atheism overseas. This is an extreme departure from the State Department’s mission, a potential violation of the Establishment Clause of our Constitution, and an unacceptable use of taxpayer funds.
As chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, I've been demanding answers from the State Department on this grant for over a year. Rather than comply with my repeated requests for documents relating to the grant, the department has instead engaged in a pattern of obfuscation and denial.
This week, I served a subpoena to Secretary of State Antony Blinken, demanding he turn over these documents by September 4, 2024. I'm determined to get the answers Americans deserve.
