One Step Closer to Defeating Childhood Cancer
Last night, the House passed my Mikaela Naylon Give Kids A Chance Act — again — as part of a government funding bill that is now headed to the Senate for a vote next week. This crucial bill will spur the development of new pediatric cancer drugs and therapies, ensuring every child is given the best chance to beat this horrible disease.
I was honored to celebrate this milestone with many precious childhood cancer patients, survivors, and advocates in the Capitol Visitor Center after the vote. They are my biggest inspiration, and today we are one step closer to defeating childhood cancer once and for all!
This bill should have passed last year, but it was shamefully stalled in the Senate by Bernie Sanders, who held the bill hostage for a completely unrelated policy he wanted to pass. Using children with cancer as a bargaining chip for one's political agenda is inexcusable.
I sat down for an interview with The National Desk to discuss the importance of this bill and the amazing young woman after whom I named it: Mikaela Naylon, a brave cancer fighter who passed away this year. I also explained why I have such a passion for fighting childhood cancer and standing up for these courageous children. Click here to watch the full story.
