Honoring Veterans & Celebrating a New Day in America
Eighty years ago, the Battle of the Bulge — which Winston Churchill described as "the greatest American battle" of World War II — finally came to an end, paving the way for Europe's liberation.
Over a span of six weeks, half a million American heroes fought in the battle, in temperatures as low as -18 degrees, and 19,000 lost their lives. It is our duty to take the lessons learned from our fathers, grandfathers, and history to preserve what these men fought for — something I strive to do each day in Congress.
This week, I had the tremendous honor of meeting four World War II veterans who fought in the Battle of the Bulge, and assisting them in laying a wreath at Arlington National Cemetery.
In times of great peril, these men fought against tyranny to preserve freedom — just like my father did as a WWII bombardier. They will always be remembered as the Greatest Generation.
In December, I led a Congressional delegation to Luxembourg and Belgium to commemorate the beginning of this battle. Click here to watch the speech I delivered in Europe on behalf of the U.S. Congress.
