Ensuring FEMA Serves Americans

Assisting American communities during disasters should be the top priority for the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), which is why Congress provided the agency $20 billion in hurricane relief funds just three weeks ago.

Rather than keeping FEMA focused on disaster assistance, the Biden-Harris administration has demanded millions of dollars to fund a separate FEMA program titled the Shelter and Service Program, which forces taxpayers to shoulder costs associated with illegal immigrants.

I joined my colleagues in a letter to Department of Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, who oversees FEMA. We demanded answers on the administration's backwards spending priorities — and on how much of the $20 billion Congress provided for disaster assistance still remains.

Once again, I want to thank all the national guardsmen and women — and all other servicemembers and first responders from Texas and across the nation — who answered the call to go assist communities in the wake of Hurricanes Milton and Helene. You will always have my support and gratitude!
