Rep. Goldman’s Resolution Repealing Burdensome Regulations Passes the House

Congressman Craig Goldman (R-TX) released the following statement after his joint resolution, H.J. Res. 75, passed the U.S. House of Representatives. This legislation repeals the Biden administration’s energy conservation standards for commercial refrigeration equipment, which the Department of Energy estimates would have imposed an $8 billion burden on small businesses and consumers.

“Before leaving office, the Biden administration pushed through a record number of extreme and costly regulations on the U.S. economy. These unnecessary rules place an undue burden on businesses and drive up costs for both small businesses and consumers. I am proud to lead this effort to repeal excessive regulation on commercial refrigeration equipment and deliver real cost savings to hardworking Americans,” said Congressman Craig Goldman. “I sincerely appreciate my colleagues who supported this measure and stood with small businesses and consumers against harmful overregulation.”

“President Biden’s Department of Energy consistently abused their authority to push radical energy policies on American consumers, attempting to implement conservation standards that are neither economically justifiable nor significantly more energy efficient for several household appliances – in this case, commercial refrigerators, freezers, and refrigerator freezers. These burdensome rules ultimately raise costs for small businesses and consumers, put smaller businesses and manufacturers at a competitive disadvantage, force some out of business resulting in job losses, and could cause supply chain disruptions,” said Majority Leader Steve Scalise. “I’m thankful to Rep. Goldman for bringing forward H.J. Res. 75 to protect consumer choice from government overreach and reduce burdensome regulations hurting manufacturers, and am happy to see his legislation pass through the House.”

“The Biden-Harris Administration placed new and harmful regulations on commercial refrigeration units, yet another example of needless regulation raising prices for businesses and families while failing to provide cost savings or increasing food safety,” said Congressman Brett Guthrie (KY-02), Chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee, and Congressman Bob Latta (OH-05), Chairman of the Subcommittee on Energy. “These Congressional Review Act resolutions are a critical part of our work to eliminate costly and burdensome regulations that failed to serve the American people. Thank you to Congressman Goldman and Congresswoman Bice for your leadership on these important issues.”
