The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Friday gave approval to the U.S. Customs and Border Protection to begin the use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) along the southwest Texas border beginning June 1, 2010. Last month, Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison and I signed a letter to Administrator J.
During a recent visit to El Paso I joined officials from the DoD, U.S. Attorney’s office, FBI, DEA, ICE, CIA, and Customs and Border Protection for classified briefings on the drug war in Mexico and implications for Texas’ border region. I also met with El Paso law enforcement and other regional and state law enforcement officials who made it clear that cartel and gang-related violence in Mexico has real implications for our southern border, with the threat of spillover violence now a fact of life for many residents along the border.
