PERSON OF THE YEAR - TIME MAGAZINE - BEST PICTURES OF 2010 - TOP ANTI AMERICAN CARTOONS - TOP RELIGIOUS LEADER

It was extremely interesting to see the choices for the Person of the Year come in from ‘Conservatives’. The poll I took had Sarah Palin and Glenn Beck tied for first. Those that chose Sarah certainly understand that there has to be a strong person who cannot only unite the voters but excite and motive them. Glenn Beck while being a ‘paid’ personality used his skills and resources to educate the public via his TV and Radio Talk shows. The Tea Party movement representing us, the America Voter, was indicative of what America experienced as a nation. I do believe we have just begun to ‘fight’!

I also listed the Media’s choices which show not only how disengaged they are but prove once again that rewarding people like Hamid Karzai, Julian Assange, and the Imam Feisal Abdul Rauf the MSM is totally out of sync with the America people. Sad to say that the Imam was voted the 2010 Religion Newsmaker of the Year by the Religion News writers Association members. Why was an American hero like Andy Sullivan who is leading the charge against the building of the Ground Zero Mosque not selected?

It is the MSM that is doing harm to America by their biased reporting. It is as if we do not exist and therefore it is only their opinion that counts. So many journalists have forgotten the basics, what, why, where, when, who and how. An obvious observation is that bloggers will double this year for this very reason. Hopefully we will experience responsible blogging, otherwise we will further the dumbing of America.

It is disconcerting that so many Americans see Sarah as their moral guide. Fortunately for us her moral compass leans towards conservative values. What is scarier is that Obama uses ‘moral imagination’ in some of his speeches when addressing the masses. Either we have a problem connecting with our spiritual leaders or our spiritual leaders are struggling to connect with us to bring us back into the fold. Regardless, there is a need for spiritual nourishment. This could be a good year for us to return to our ‘church’. In the end Pope Benedict XVI won by popular vote. There is hope for America!

Bill and Melinda Gates were included in the ten for their contribution to education. This choice while well intentioned tells me that there is much for all of us to learn this coming year about our education system. Being a photographer I have added the top 100 photographs of the year. Photographs when not manipulated do not lie. We can still rely on the occurrence even if for a moment the reality of what was. I only selected a few of the cartoons from the Memri Cartoon initiative 2010. These cartoons taken from Middle Eastern newspapers tell us just how America is viewed.

As we begin our 2011 journey let us take a glance back and with our minds and hearts to the future!

Top Religion Newsmaker: Imam, pope or Sarah Palin?

Does conflict or inspiration lead 2010's religion news?

Ultimately, Pope Benedict XVI beat Sarah Palin in a runoff vote Tuesday among Faith & Reason readers on who was the top "religion newsmaker" of the year. So what were the top religion stories of 2010 -- where faith, or people acting its name, made the headlines? Does coverage of conflict trump coverage of people inspired for good?

Religion Newswriters Association, the professional association of journalists who cover this beat picked Rauf as well in an annual members survey.

Pope Benedict XVI jolted believers with a surprising-- and initially confusing -- comment on condoms in a newly published book, based on extraordinary interviews he gave a German journalists.

Sarah Palin is 2010 top religion voice for many

The cases for Palin, and several other contenders including Benedict and Imam Abdul Feisal Rauf (both tied at 23%), Glenn Beck (9%) and Rev. Franklin Graham (7%) and even the politician who brought paganism into the mid-term election limelight, Christine O'Donnell (4%)
