Have Texas Dems Lost Sight of the Civil Rights Movement?

Many Texas Democrats choose to perpetuate the myth that a voter’s ethnicity can predict which party they support. Democrats claim to represent Hispanic Texans, but that claim doesn’t match up with how Hispanics in Texas vote. Hispanics, like all Americans, are not a politically cohesive group and hold a plurality of political beliefs.

In 2010, the Republican Party of Texas elected more Hispanics to statewide office than the Democrat party. There are presently six Hispanic Republicans in the Texas Legislature, two Hispanic Republicans on the Texas Supreme Court, and numerous Hispanic Republican officeholders throughout the state.

Redistricting Update V: Communications From The Panels

There have been two significant communications from different courts that gives us some indication as to the direction and the schedules that the San Antonio three-judge panel will take us in the ongoing Texas redistricting saga. This update will inform you as to their contents and significance to the proceedings.

Amidst the Redistricting Issues Lana Shadwick Files for Judge of the 179th Criminal District Court

Texas Redistricting is a mess. No one seems to know which end is up when it comes to when and where to file. Maybe even what race to file for. Amidst all this chaos, one thing is clear - Judge Lana Shadwick has filed for the Republican nomination for Judge of the 179th Criminal District Court in the Harris County Republican Primary. During an informal filing ceremony, Judge Shadwick was joined by members of her family and volunteers from the campaign as she filed her forms, submitted petitions and paid her filing fee.   Read more »

Federal Court Orders April 3rd, 2012 Texas Primary Election – RPT Must Stand Up to RNC

Redistricting Update: San Antonio Federal Court signs order pushing all Texas Primary Elections back to just one date, April 3rd, 2012. No split Primary dates.

When the US Supreme Court took up the Texas Redistricting Case, I wrote an article explaining that the likely thing to happen would be a split primary (March and May) with some of the elections, including the Presidential Primary Election, happening in March and the rest of the elections being pushed back until May so that the US Supreme Court can make a ruling.

US Supreme Court Stops Judicial Theft of Texas' Elections - Stay Request by Attorney General Greg Abbott Granted

The US Supreme Court has granted a stay requested by Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott and Governor Rick Perry along with other state officials.  The stay blocks Texas from using the maps drawn by the lower Federal Court led by Judges Orlando Garcia and Xavier Rodriquez.  Judge Jerry Smith, the third member of the lower court had dissented with the other two judges.   Read more »
