Running late into the night of June 11th at the Republican Party of Texas Convention, the Latino National Republican Coalition of Texas held "Fiesta 2010" at the Hyatt Regency Dallas in true Latino fashion, complete with piñatas, chips, and salsa.
The
Speaker of the Texas House, Joe Strauss, explains that the first thing he plans to do in the upcoming session is to balance the budget. He estimates Texas to have a $18 billion shortfall, but he is committed to balancing the budget without raising taxes for Texans.
This convention, I personally witnessed Republican delegates and volunteer party activists put on a performance for the ages. Thousands, tirelessly working around the clock to make sure that the grassroots of Texas could speak with authority by the end of the convention. Even for our Fiesta, many of our LNRC members arrived late, smiling but exhausted after days of grueling discussion and meetings about how best to lead the Republican Party.
Retired military officer, Colonel Robert A. Casias, comes to the RPT 2010 Convention because because he is concerned with the out-of-control government, the leaders in the both the House and Senate who do not listen, and the outrageous spending! He says that he heard a recent estimate that said in five years the debt will be at $19 trillion!
State Rep. Dan Branch (HD-108), Chairman of the Higher Education Committee, explains that the Texas House passed emerging tier one university reform and top 10% college admissions reform, along with adding additional scholarship money, all while balancing the budget.
Then Vice-Chairman Robin Armstrong discusses his campaign for re-election and explains the role of the Vice-Chairman of the Republican Party of Texas.
