Interviews with Members of the Hispanic Republican Conference

TexasGOPVote and VOCES Action conducted a series of interviews with members of the Texas House of Representatives' Hispanic Republican Conference. 

The Hispanic Republican Conference has been growing. Originally it was formed by the House’s five Hispanic Republicans but has since been joined by other State Representatives whose districts have at least 30% Hispanic constituents. The Hispanic Republican Conference will be addressing some issues that have been controversial in parts of the state with large Hispanic populations.   Read more »

Rep. Wayne Smith impressed me with his attitude of recognizing the ability of other state representatives. Rep. Bill Callegari Explains Co-Authoring the Sonogram Bill and Discusses a Proposed Coercion Bill

The following interview with Texas Representative Bill Callegari is one of a series of interviews conducted by VOCES Action and TexasGOPVote with members of the Hispanic Republican Conference in the 82nd session of the Texas Legislature. Representative Callegari represents House District 132, which includes west Harris County.

In my conversation with Mr. Callegari we spoke about his district, why he is part of the Hispanic Republican Conference, the closeness he has with Hispanic people and his own Latino background, his opinion about the immigration problem and the fact that he is a co author of the Sonogram Bill, HB15, that recently passed. He also mentioned another bill.

The following interview with Texas Representative Todd Hunter is one of a series of interviews conducted by VOCES Action and TexasGOPVote with members of the Hispanic Republican Conference in the 82nd session of the Texas Legislature. Representative Hunter represents House District 32, which is in Corpus Christi area and includes Nueces, Calhoun, San Patricio, and Aransas Counties.

I had actually met Rep. Hunter about a month ago at New Braunfels Legislative Conference, and I was very pleased to see how personable he is.

Interview with State Representative Barbara Nash, member of Hispanic Republican Conference (VIDEO)

The following interview with Texas Representative Barbara Nash is one of a series of interviews conducted by VOCES Action and TexasGOPVote with members of the Hispanic Republican Conference in the 82nd session of the Texas Legislature. Ms. Nash is a freshman in the Texas State House of Representatives, representing House District 93 which is in Tarrant County and includes parts of the cities of Arlington, Mansfield and Grand Prairie.   We are very glad she was elected into this office.

One issue that Representative Nash told me is that she is fighting for HB359, "relating to the corporal punishment of public schools" and she is very concerned about this issue. Addressing this issue has always been a passion of hers as she started having children in school in the 70's, she always said "don't hit my children"  and she realized that those schools actually

The following interview with Texas Representative Kenneth Sheets is one of a series of interviews conducted by VOCES Action and TexasGOPVote with members of the Hispanic Republican Conference in the 82nd session of the Texas Legislature. In 2010, Kenneth Sheets was elected to his first session in the Texas House of Representatives serving District 107, which includes East Dallas, the Lakewood area, the Highlands area, part of Garland, and part of Mesquite.

The first time I heard from Mr. Kenneth Sheets was back on July 22, 2012 after I debated Liberal Democrat Domingo Garcia on FOX News primetime on the immigration issue.
