Second Amendment - Are we to cherish it or ignore it?

The second of the ten “bill of rights” amendments has been said to be “not needed until you need it.” With the recent public mass shootings prompting gun-ban groups (almost exclusively extreme leftist/progressive/Marxist Democratic party activist groups), are renewing their call for more gun restrictions and even confiscation from law-abiding citizens.

Guns have been called “the great equalizer”, enabling weaker individuals to defend themselves against attacks by larger, stronger, and multiple predators.

Importantly, nearly all of the modern day public mass shootings have occurred in so-called “gun free zones”, where the perpetrators knew in advance and took advantage of the fact that the likelihood of legal defensive firearms being present was low.

Countering the shrill screams of the most extreme left, the National Rifle Association’s Wayne LaPierre has suggested that armed guards in schools is the fastest, most efficient, and most effective deterrent available to discourage future shootings. In a landmark speech given post-Newtown, he observed in part that regardless of the motives, mental condition, family status, upbringing, or other reasons, once a madman starts shooting that,

“The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun. Would you rather have your 911 call bring a good guy with a gun from a mile away ... or a minute away?” [ellipsis his, full speech here]

To help encourage the Texas legislature to improve Texans' security, and recognizing that the vast majority of gun owners are responsible law-abiding citizens, the State Republican Executive Committee (SREC) unanimously passed a strong resolution this past Saturday (Texas Independence Day!) encouraging the further reduction of “gun free zones” in Texas. Dems, on the other hand, are well known for wanting to take away your 2nd Amendment right to “keep and bear arms”. They are out of touch with Texans of all walks of life and demographic groups.

The Republican Party continues to show that it clearly has better ideas than Democrats. Republicans work hard to defend Texans and their God-given rights enumerated in the Constitution, including the right to keep and bear arms.

The Republican Party values are better for your family.
