Neugebauer Speaks Out Against Burdensome EPA Regulations

As a senior member of the House Committee on Science, Space, and Technology, I released the following statement in response to the Obama Administration’s proposal to drastically increase regulations on carbon emissions.

This aggressive overreach by the Obama Administration will increase the costs of electricity bills for American families, hurt our domestic manufacturing industry, and slow our economic growth. The Clean Air Act was designed to protect our environment, not destroy jobs. This rule will cause coal power plants across the nation to close, leading to fewer jobs and less reliable power for our businesses and families. We can’t afford to burden our economy with more costly, unrealistic, and unnecessary regulations.

In May, I joined 29 Members of the bipartisan Texas delegation to send a letter to EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy questioning the agency’s legal authority to even propose this rule. He has repeatedly pushed for the EPA to use sound science in rule-making, and to consider the harmful economic effects of their harsh regulations.
