The "Democratizers" Lose Their Bid for Initiative and Referendum...Again

The "democratizers" lost again in their attempt to turn our republican form of government into a direct democracy (fourth branch of government) through a statewide Initiative and Referendum (I&R). The Texas Bill of Rights, Art. I, Sec. 2 and 29 guarantees Texas to be a Republic and any legislation contrary to the preservation of our republican form of government is prohibited. Everything in the Texas Bill of Rights is held to be inviolate. Other states that have I&R may not have that state constitutional prohibition against I&R and the results have had unintended consequences.

Conservatives should all be strict constructionists of the State and Federal constitutions and be thankful for the state and federal Bill of Rights which protect our inalienable God-given right to Life, Liberty and Property. When we are unhappy with the action or lack of action on the part of our elected representatives, it is our responsibility to kick them out of office, not bypass the Executive, Legislative and Judicial branches of government, which could trample the rights of the minority and lead to "mobocracy."
